Policía se convierte en superhéroe de carne y hueso para animar a niños enfermos

No importa el área en que te desenvuelvas, siempre es posible dejar una huella positiva por dondequiera que vayas, cosa que por cierto hace mucha falta en este ajetreado y complejo mundo en que vivimos. Con la suficiente creatividad y disposición todo es posible, en especial si tus intenciones van dirigidas hacia los más pequeños de la casa, cuyos inocentes corazones se regocijan con todo tipo de experiencias.

Hace algunos años, el oficial de policía Damon Cole comprendió este hecho, apresurándose a poner en marcha un plan bastante particular: disfrazarse de superhéroe para sorprender niños enfermos. Fue así como Superman, Batman, Ironman, Hulk y muchos otros personajes comenzaron a frecuentar los hospitales de Texas y otras localidades de los Estados Unidos, ¡con vehículos especiales incluidos!

En esta ocasión, queremos animarte a conocer más a fondo su iniciativa para que también te sientas inspirado con su testimonio. En palabras de Cole: "Cualquiera puede comprarse un disfraz y ponérselo para un niño, pero es en cómo interactúas con él donde está la diferencia". ¡Bravo por él!

Quién piense que los superhéroes no existen, es porque no conoce a Damon Cole

En 2012, cuando Cole trabajaba para la Estación de Policía de Dallas, comenzó a vestirse como Superman para asistir a varios eventos de servicio en su comunidad y visitas al hospital. De igual manera, posee otras identidades secretas, siendo las más populares Hulk, Iron Man, Batman y el Hombre Araña.

Superman is always on duty. I wore the same Superman logo on my bulletproof vest for 11 years . In 2015 I took the Superman logo off and mailed it to my HERO Bryce in Smithton, Illinois. HERO Bryce was the first little boy I ever saw with cancer. My Superman logo had protected me for 11 years of my career so I knew it would protect my HERO Bryce. Los niños enfermos ingresados en el hospital de Texas esperan con ansías sus divertidas visitas, cargadas no sólo de risas y diversión, sino también de  mucho apoyo emocional para sus padres y conocidos con el fin de animarlos a continuar hasta el final con la dura batalla que les ha tocado experimentar.

I received this message from HERO Joshua mom Corrie. "Damon, this is Corrie. My son, Joshua is fighting Rhabdomyosarcoma. His last chemo is scheduled at Dallas Children's and I would love it if the Hulk could be there for him." I contacted Corrie and I told her I would be honored to come see my HERO Joshua as the Hulk. After work I went to see my HERO Joshua is 5 years old. I surprised my HERO Joshua was his very first bicycle and of course it had to be Hulk green. I was honored to see HERO Joshua and make him smile. Joshua you are a REAL HERO and you are my HERO. Keep kicking cancer's butt. Please keep HERO Joshua and his amazing family in your prayers. Aparte de disfrazarse, lleva algunos obsequios para hacerles pasar un rato ameno

No recibe ningún tipo de remuneración especial ni ayuda gubernamental. Todo sale de su propio sueldo como policía. Obviamente, con su historia ha motivado a muchas personas quienes lo esperan con dulces, juguetes, historietas y demás presentes para que él, encarnando al superhéroe de turno, los entregue.

En su haber acumula testimonios de triunfos y derrotas

Bryce Schotte, un pequeño niño de 7 años de edad diagnosticado con cáncer fue el primero que tuvo el privilegio de vivir esta experiencia sin igual. Al conocer su historia, Damon no dudó ni un instante en acudir a su encuentro. Recorrió un largo camino para, 7 horas después, llegar al hospital donde se encontraba ingresado.

Para sorprender a Bryce, optó por llegar disfrazado de Superman, haciendo sonar fuertemente la bocina de su auto

La expresión de alegría, emoción y sorpresa del pequeño fue algo que quedó grabado para siempre en la memoria, tanto de Damon como de todos quienes fueron testigos de su encuentro. ¡Imagínate mirar por la ventana de tu habitación en un hospital y conseguir a tu héroe preferido saludándote! De allí en adelante, Damon sabía que quería seguir haciendo lo mismo por mucho tiempo.

I miss and love you JDUB. I think about you all the time. I hate that you are gone. I promise to make you proud. R.I.P. JDUB... JDUB and his family lives in Rutledge, TN. JDUB was the 2nd little boy I had ever seen when I started doing this. I ended up seeing HERO JDUB 6 times over a 2 year time frame. His family became my family and they still are my family. I am going to do another post later of pictures of me and HERO JDUB that was taken over the 6 times I saw him. HERO JDUB passed away from lung and liver cancer. I f@#king hate cancer. If you look at the last picture. JDUB gave me that Iron Man medal sign and I had him sign it. You can see his autograph. I will keep this with me forever.

My custom 2012 Batman / Superman Dodge Charger has taken me to 22 States to see sick children. The best part of the car are the names on both sides. I am currently having the interior of my Batmobile done. Once it's done, it will be completely done so that it looks better than the real Batmobile. Sick children will be able to sit inside of it and hit buttons that light up, interact with computer monitors and activate the weapons on the Batmobile. Always go BIG or go home.

There is NOTHING in this world that I will not do for my little girl. She really is my everything. My daughter begged me to let her put makeup on me. Like I said I will do anything to make my little girl To make her happy I told her ok, but I get to put make up on her. It was priceless. I love you Savannah, you are my world. Since God blessed me to have a healthy daughter, that is why I give back and I will go anywhere to make a sick child and his family happy. Because I would want someone to do that for me if I was in their shoes.

Hasta ahora, Cole estima haber visitado más de 20 estados y ver a más de 1.000 niños

This was a total team effort with Make-A-Wish Nebraska and Norfolk Police Department. I drove up to Norfolk, Nebraska on Thursday so I could do this for my Hero Mo Friday morning. After the event was over I drove back to Fort Worth, Texas because I had to be at work Saturday morning. It was an amazing trip and I met a lot of wonderful people. Thank you God for watching overing me and making sure my Superman / Batman Dodge Charger held up for me. Nebraska is the 21st state I have been to now in my Superman / Batman Dodge Charger to see sick children. I am devastated and heart broken. My HERO Brock passed away yesterday from cancer. I saw my HERO Brock three different times. Once as Superman, once as Batman and I made him a Fort Worth Police junior police officer. HERO Brock is a true HERO and he always will be. Please pray for HERO Brock and his family during this difficult time. #CancerSucks 😢😢😢😢 Life is truly not fair. All these children deserve so much more.

This is one of my HEROES Dakin. HERO Dakin loves police officers and the Incredible Hulk. HERO Dakin's dream was to become a police officer when he grows up. Unfortunately, due to HERO Dakin's medical problems, this is not possible. I went and saw HERO Dakin last week in my police uniform and his face lit up. I told him my secret that I am also the Incredible Hulk. At first he didn't believe me until I came back into his room as the Hulk. The smile HERO Dakin had was simply priceless. I promised him when he gets better and gets released from the hospital that I was going to have a big surprise for him. My HERO Mia passed away yesterday at 4:00 pm from cancer. HERO Mia was an amazing little girl. She was so strong and she fought so hard. I am really at a loss for words. My heart is hurting so bad for HERO Mia and her family. Please everyone take a minute out of your day and say a prayer for HERO Mia and her amazing family during this difficult time. R.I.P. HERO Mia, you will always be my HERO. We have to all come together and find a cure for cancer. This has to STOP!!!!!! #CancerSucks

Más allá del disfraz, la capa o su automóvil, es su corazón (incluso cuando está roto) quien lo hace ser un héroe de verdad

This is the hardest part of what I do. I went to see HERO Jeremiah as Batman after I had finished my shift at work. When I saw HERO Jeremiah he was clinging to life. It destroyed my heart seeing HERO Jeremiah like this. A few hours after I left HERO Jeremiah passed away. I was asked to attend HERO Jeremiah's funeral as Batman and I was honored to do this for HERO Jeremiah and his family. We have to find a cure for Childhood Cancer. Erica Foster Jones and @sunshinespaces are amazing. They made sure the family was taken care in every way. I am honored to help Sunshine Spaces whenever they need me. Debido a la difusión de su historia, ha creado una asociación llamada "Heroes, Cops and Kids"

I have been a police officer since 1999. As a police officer you deal with every walk of life and there are children that are scared or intimidated by police officers. I didn’t like this so I was trying to think of a way to have a positive impact on children that I would come in contact with at work. So around 14 years ago I had the Superman logo put on my bulletproof vest so when I deal with any child at work, I would make them pinky promise me to keep my secret. I would unzip my uniform short exposing my Superman logo on my bulletproof vest. The children’s faces would light up and they would ask me where my cape was. I would tell them that I can wear my cape with my uniform because it will get wrinkled. This is what started it all. In 2015 while working for the Dallas Police Department I started dressing up as Superman and Iron Man doing community events. At this time in my life I didn’t even know childhood cancer existed. Then I learned about HERO Bryce who was 7 years old and he lived in Smithton, Illinois. HERO Bryce had stomach cancer and he loved Superman. I looked at pictures of HERO Bryce and it hit close to home for me because at this time my daughter Savannah was 7 years old also. I was like this could be my child and I realized how blessed I was to have a healthy daughter. I got in contact with Bryce’s family through my buddy Kurt who helped me work out the details with HERO Bryce’s family to go see him. I took 3 days off from work and drove 11 hours to see HERO Bryce as Superman and Iron Man. HERO Bryce really believed I was Superman and Iron Man. I went to HERO Bryce’s school to see all the students because the entire school was supporting HERO Bryce by wearing his t-shirt. I left the school and went to see HERO Bryce at his house. He was not able to attend school because he was on chemo and his immune system was too low. I ended up hanging out with HERO Bryce for four hours. This visit with HERO Bryce changed my life forever. That is when I knew I had found my calling in life. Since that day I have been to 22 states and seen well over 1,000 sick children. I will continue to do my part to make difference as long as I am here on this earth.

Deadpool is one of my favorite superheroes that I do for the kids. I get a lot of requests for Deadpool. That's why I had to buy the Deadpool suit that is just like the one in the movie. This one cost me $6,000 but it's worth every penny. One thing I learned very quickly is that if you don't look the part, kids will call you out. Kids don't have a filter and will tell you how it is. So I always GO BIG or go home.
